Beaconsfield residents challenge STM’s proposed Montrose bus route

Some residents of Beaconsfield, Quebec are opposing the Société de transport de Montréal’s (STM) plan to reroute a peak-hour bus (the 211X) down Montrose Avenue as part of a transit network redesign.

Neighbours say Montrose is too narrow and worry a bus would be unsafe for pedestrians and cars, and there’s concern that the change doesn’t serve key local destinations as the previous route did. They’ve raised these issues publicly and are pushing back against the proposal.

West Island bus-route revamp raising concerns among residents

Montreal’s public transit agency, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), is redesigning bus routes on the West Island to better connect with the new Réseau express métropolitain (REM) network.

However, some residents in communities such as Dorval, Beaconsfield and Lachine are concerned the changes will reduce service to familiar destinations, force buses onto quiet residential streets and make some trips less convenient. They’ve raised their worries with local officials as the STM moves forward with the plan.
